Girls Division 2 Championship hosted by:

Dear Participants, Coaches and Parents

A very warm welcome to the International School of The Hague (ISH) and to the ISST Varsity Girls Basketball tournament.  We are delighted to be hosting this prestigious tournament at the school and we look forward to you enjoying our school, a good competitive competition, and as always making new friends through the wonderful medium of sport.

As players, I am sure that there have been many early morning or late evening practices as you work on your plays, drills and most of all shooting. All that hard work now comes to the tournament and game-time and working together as a
a squad can be the difference between winning and losing;

Dear Athletes, Coaches and Spectators,

On behalf of the International School of The Hague, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the ISST Division 2 Girls Basketball Championships 2018. We are delighted to welcome all teams to the competition and look forward to three action-packed days of basketball.

As the tournament progresses, I expect to witness many exciting and close fought games played within the true spirit of basketball. Only one team can end up as champions, but every team should remember: “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.” Phil Jackson. The hosting of any tournament is a
community effort and I would like to express my appreciation to all those who have contributed to making this event a success.

I would particularly like to thank our host families who have so generously opened their homes to you this week. Without them, tournaments of this nature would not be possible.

As the ISST organisation reaches its 50th year in 2018, it is important to recognise how fortunate we are to be part of such a well-established, organised and prolific program for students to experience such sporting opportunities and success. With that in mind, I draw your attention to the ISST Statement of Sportsmanship on the next page to remind ourselves about why we are all here.

Athletes - please take the time to enjoy this special experience with your teammates and coaches. For some, this is your last ISST and for others, it is your first. Enjoy every moment!
I hope at the end of the tournament you are all able to leave having had a positive experience filled with many happy memories of your time here at ISH and The Hague.

Good luck to all!

Athletic Director and PHE Teacher
however, what is most important is that all participants (including the coaches) respect the wonderful game of Basketball.

Having myself coached Varsity Girls Basketball in four different countries, this Varsity Girls tournament is one that holds special memories of winning and nearly winning!

As always, a huge shout-out and thanks to my team at ISH; from our superb Athletic Director, Mr Omar Boutayeb and his team of coaches and administrative assistants who have prepared everything in detail for the tournament to the Parents Association who will be feeding you throughout your time here. I hope you enjoy your time at our school and in the wonderful country of the Netherlands.

Finally, a quote from Larry Brown to keep you going and focussed throughout the tournament:

Have a great tournament.
